Healthy neighborhoods’ to be topic of summit

The City of Binghamton is hosting a summit on “healthy neighborhoods” from noon to 5 p.m. today at the Broome County Library.

Building healthy neighborhoods is one of four key objectives of the city’s community and economic development plan, city officials said. Presenting at the summit will also be representatives from the Syracuse-based organization, Home Headquarters, a private, not-for-profit established to improve the quality of housing and neighborhoods in Central New York. City officials and Home Headquarter representatives have been discussing ways to combine resources to increase homeownership rates, better leverage HOME dollars (a HUD grant), roll out a new curb appeal program and secure NYSERDA grants for local homeowners to drive down utility bills.
