Media Advisory - Health, environment leaders' recommendations urge Premier to make pesticide ban a reality

Health-care and environmental experts will join
together next Tuesday to call on the McGuinty government to ban the use and
sale of cosmetic pesticides across Ontario.
The links between pesticide use and illnesses such as cancer and
neurological problems mean quick action is needed from the government. Premier
McGuinty has pledged to introduce legislation this spring that will ban the
cosmetic use of pesticides, a move that is also supported by a majority of
voters in Ontario.
A coalition of 15 health and environmental groups has developed a set of
key principles essential to an effective ban, which will be presented at
Tuesday's press conference.
