Healthy Happenings, a school program designed to help reverse an epidemic of physical inactivity and poor eating habits, is improving the health of children and youth in Lambton County elementary schools.
Join us Tuesday, June 19, 4 p.m. at the Best Western Guildwood Inn, Point Edward, to celebrate the success of students, staff and parents at local schools. Students will make presentations to show how Healthy Happenings has impacted their school community.
Schools being recognized are:
- Errol Road Public School, Sarnia
- Lakeroad Public School, Sarnia
- London Road Public School, Sarnia
- St. Benedict Catholic School, Sarnia
- St. Peter Catholic School, Sarnia
- St. Joseph Catholic School, Corunna
- St. Philip Catholic School, Petrolia
- St. Therese Catholic School, Sarnia
- Lambton Centennial Public School, Petrolia
"Research shows that Healthy Happenings is successfully educating children, families and staff in these schools and has created a healthier environment for children," says Christine Preece, Health Promotion Officer with the County of Lambton Community Health Services Department. "Health and learning are interdependent so it's important to make changes within school settings."
The program, sponsored by Healthy Living Lambton, has shown that collaboration and a variety of activities with consistent messaging can make a difference. The Community Health Services Department and other partners work with students, staff and families in these school communities to increase knowledge and behaviour of physical activity and healthy eating habits.
