Health Net Federal Services Partners with Government to Provide Enhanced Care for Disease Management Program

Diabetes Program to Educate and Empower the Patient -

SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Health Net Federal Services, LLC (Health Net), the government operations division of Health Net, Inc. (NYSE:HNT), announced today its enhanced Disease Management diabetes program in partnership with the Department of Defense (DoD). The program enhancements align with Health Net’s goals to manage health care costs and continuously improve the quality of military health care services.

As part of the new program, the DoD will partner with Health Net to enroll beneficiaries with uncontrolled diabetes in the program, which is designed to develop a customized disease management regimen to help each beneficiary cope with their disease.

“Health Net Federal Services’ diabetes program approaches disease management through education, empowering patients to take control and participate in their health care, and learning how to effectively communicate with their doctors,” said Steve Tough, president, Health Net Federal Services.

“We believe this team offers a unique approach to controlling diabetes. All members of the team are disease specialists, including certified diabetes educators, dieticians, registered nurses and social workers. The social workers add a critical component, as it is common for patients with unmanaged chronic conditions to develop depression,” added Dr. Ted Christy, Health Net Federal Services’ vice president and acting chief medical officer. He went on to say that Health Net’s program specifically helps patients learn how to monitor, regulate and control their disease through at-home testing, regular screenings, medication, diet and exercise, and effective communication with medical professionals. Unmanaged diabetes can result in loss of vision, limbs and even life.
