A lack of properly certified engineers is complicating the construction of health care facilities in Wyoming.
The state Department of Health recently told builders that state engineers are no longer inspecting health care facilities while those facilities are being built. That means builders must hire their own inspectors with International Code Council certification.
That has turned out to be easier said than done.
Wyoming has few engineers with the required certification. And the engineers who do have the certification often don't have the time.
In Cheyenne, partners in the Cheyenne Eye Clinic say they ran into a problem trying to find an inspector for a large expansion project. They say they got lucky and eventually found a certified engineer who was willing to do the inspections.
