U.S. generic firm Barr said Friday it has received approval to market a generic version of Vesanoid capsules for leukemia.
Barr's product is the first generic copy of Vesanoid, 10 mg, which the company said it would market immediately. The company is entitled to six months' market exclusivity for putting the first generic version of Vesanoid on the market.
Barr estimated annual sales for Vesanoid at about $24 million for the 12 months ending in April 2007, quoting data from IMS Health.
Vesanoid capsules are indicated for the induction of remission in patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia.
