Atlanta (AHN) - The Coca-Cola Co. has confirmed that it will purchase vitamin water maker Glaceau for $4.1 billion USD. The move will add to the company's water and energy drink portfolio.
New York-based Energy Brands, Inc., known as Glaceau, is the manufacturer of Vitaminwater, Fruitwater, Smartwater and Vitaminenergy.
According to the company, the transaction will be be accretive to it's earnings per share in the first year after the completion of the acquisition. Glaceau's top three leading executives will still manage the business for at least three years, while other key managers will stay on.
Glaceau is considered a good move on Coca-Cola's part due to the brand's status in the enhanced water and energy drink categories. Coca-Cola is forecasting that the category will comprise a significant portion of the beverage industry's profit growth in North America till 2010.
